Spring Fling

Emerald City
Emerald Panton Color

The 2013 Pantone color of the year is Emerald and this trend is already taking on the fashion scene. It has been described as a "lively, radiant, lush green" and I could not agree more. We've seen so many variations of blues and melons over the past couple of years, so it is a nice change of pace to see this elegant color. I personally love the Emerald color because it can be worn for all seasons, which means that you aren't just buying clothes for Spring/Summer and Winter/Fall. The color has a very regale and rich feel, that allows you to incorporate your entire wardrobe without being overly dominant. Try adding it in with accessories along with dressing up and down the pieces. Have fun with this fabulously chic color!

Tweed
Shirt - JCrew; Skirt - BCBG (old), similar style here; Shoes - Anthropologie; Bracelet - JCrew

Tweed will always be timeless and it's fun to find unique styles that you can dress up or down. I found this skirt and picked it up. To dress it down, I pair it with a tank top and fun sandals. I especially like tweed skirts around November/December because they can be the perfect piece to pair with a nice top and fun jewelry for the holidays!

Printed Pants

Sweater - JCrew, Jeans - Heart Boutique, Shoes - Christian Louboutin, Purse - Prada, Bracelet - JCrew

This weekend I hit up Heart Boutique in Sacramento for their Black Friday sale and scored a few fun items, including these polka dot pants! Over the past year, printed jeans have been a huge trend and I had to pick up a fun pair for the winter. My recommendation is to find a pair that isn't too expensive since it is very trendy. Heart Boutique has great prices even when they aren't having a sale, which is why I knew it would be the perfect place to find a funky pair of jeans!

Dressed Up & Down

Sweater - TrouveOutfit One: Pea Coat - JCrew; Jeans - Elizabeth and James, similar style here; Booties -Michael Kors; Bracelet - JCrew  Outfit Two: Trousers - Massimo Dutti; Heels - Christian Louboutin; Bracelet - JCrew

Adapting to the cold weather has required me to rethink outfits and how to wear them. I’ve been stocking up on sweaters and have to make them work for my casual wear and for dressing up. I’ve worn my sweater with jeans and some booties to still add a little something to look and with my navy pajama pants to play up the blues in the pattern. My final touch for my winter look? My coral pea coat from JCrew. I didn’t want to pick up a black pea coat this year as I already have a shorter one, but was in search of a longer coat to keep me warm. JCrew has so many fun colors right now and almost all can go with any outfit since they are so vibrant. I scored my coat during one of JCrew’s awesome sales.Right now JCrew has a 25% off sale on sweaters!

Designs and Details

Dress - Anthropologie, Jacket - Anthropologie (old), Bracelet - JCrew, Shoes - Gucci

I picked this dress up and I had to share it with all of you. It’s become one of my favorites in my closet, as I love its mod vibe and the vibrant green stitching of the pattern. I played up the 70s feel by pulling my hair back with bobby pins but brought it up to date with this coat. The one thing I am always looking for in clothes is the little details and this dress and jacket are perfect examples of that. I found this jacket last year at Anthro and fell in love with the pleats on the back. It’s easy to wear for dressed up and down, which is why I picked it up. The same thing happened to me again at Anthropologie when I saw this dress. The zipper and the stitching were too eye catching to pass!

Bundled Up

Trench - Anthropologie, Sweater - Hinge, Jeans - Hudson, Boots - Vince Camuto, Headband - Charming Charlie, Bracelet - JCrew

Oh my gosh I cannot believe how cold it has been this past week! I’m not used to the cold chill in the air that Sacramento has. I took advantage of the Veterans Day sales and picked up new boots at Saks Off Fifth and a couple of sweaters. I am absolutely in love with Vince Camuto, and was able to score big time on a pair of boots I found at Off Fifth this weekend. My favorite part is the brown leather at the top, which helps add an extra element to the boots. I will be wearing these all winter to stay warm and look fabulous!

P.S. Check out the fun lining on my trench - it's teal and polka dot!

Crazy for Chevron

Dress - Francesca's Collections, similar style here; Shoes - Tahari (old); Bracelets - JCrew, Purse - Louis Vuitton

Chevron has managed to be in style for quite some time now and I am personally a huge fan of the print! I found this dress at Francesca’s a year ago and have gotten a lot of use out of it. It’s the perfect dress for dinner and drinks with the hubby or with the girls! In the cooler seasons I wear it with tights and in the summer it’s a cute shift dress to throw on.

Hats and Ruffles

Hat - Gap, Top - JCrew, Jeans - Hudson, Shoes - Anthropologie Miss Albright Bordeaux Ruffle Oxford Heels, Bracelets - both JCrew here and here

It’s amazing how a pair of shoes or a necklace can drastically change an outfit. I scored with these heels from Anthropologie. They were MAJORLY on sale and they are perfect for fall and winter. They are no longer online but I called a couple of stores and was able to ship them for free. The hat and the shoes can really make an outfit and can be paired with so many different clothes. I am envisioning a cute wrap dress with this hat the next time I wear it. The shoes may have Bordeaux in them, but the color is very on trend this season and can act as a neutral with other fall colored clothes.  Have you found an accessory that adds a little something extra to your clothes?

Bonjour!

Sweater - ASOS, Jeans - Gap, Shoes - Michael Kors, Bracelet - JCrew, Purse - Prada

Bonjour! I’m longing to go back to France and I am always looking to incorporate a little bit of France in my life. I saw this sweater on ASOS and it was just too cute to pass up! This was the first time I’ve ordered clothes from ASOS.com and I was very happy with the items that arrived, plus it was fun looking forward to receiving clothes in the mail!

Rainy Days

Shirt - JCrew, Sweater - JCrew, Jeans - Paige, Rain Boots - Hunter Boots, Purse - Kate Spade, Necklace -JCrew, Bracelet -JCrew, Umbrella - Target

It’s official; the cold weather has arrived in Sacramento. Today was a rainy day, so I decided to have fun and bust out my beloved Hunter boots and my new umbrella. I am still getting used to the chilly Northern California weather again, so I’ve been trying to layer-up to stay warm.

A Dress for Everything

Dress - Anthropologie, Belt - JCrew, Shoes - Michael Kors, Bracelet - JCrew, Purse-Prada

When I’m looking for new pieces in my wardrobe, I try to consider the different ways and places I can wear it. I just recently started to think about this more while shopping, especially since my husband seems to be more forgiving when I come back from the mall with clothes that I can wear to work and outside of work.

This Anthropologie dress caught my eye and I realized that with different accessories I can wear this to work, out with friends and to holiday parties – score! I’ve already worn it multiple ways and tried it out this weekend with a studded belt and my new booties to give it a Fall feel.

Fall Transitions

Jacket - Zara, similar style here; colored denim - Zara (old); necklace - House of Harlow 1960; shoes -Gucci
This past spring and summer was filled with amazing trends, including colored denim. I picked these up at the Zara in Paris and wear them all the time! Even though we are half way through October, I was not ready to put them away. To make them more appropriate for the upcoming cool weather, I paired them with neutral colors and suede pumps.

Skirt - JCrew, similar style here; shoes - Seychelles (old); necklace - Kate Spade; bracelet - JCrew; purse -Louis Vuitton

I love dressing casual during the daytime on the weekend and this Sunday was no exception. I had a fun filled weekend and Sunday afternoon was the perfect time to go grab lunch with my husband. I threw on this skirt and jazzed it up with a couple of accessories.

On Saturday I went out to San Francisco to spend the afternoon with my dad. We grabbed lunch at Kuleto’s, an Italian restaurant in the city, and then went up to the Legion of Honor to check out the Man Ray and Lee Miller exhibit. The show was amazing and told a very interesting tale about these two leaders of Surrealism in the 1930s. Afterward I conned my dad into going with me to Bloomingdales for Emily Schulman’s book signing. Schulman is the genius behind the blog Cupcakes and Cashmere, one of my favorite blogs. I even got to snag a photo with the blogger!

Below are some snapshots from my weekend.

Fashion Icons

It has been a very busy week for me, so I've decided to share with you my fashion icons. I find that these gals can be quite inspiring when I'm looking in my closet. One funny note - two of my most inspiring icons are actually TV characters! Carrie Bradshaw will forever be a timeless fashionista to many of us and I still get a lot of enjoyment and style ideas from watching the Sex and the City series. I also love a newer character to television, Dr. Zoe Hart on Hart of Dixie aka Rachel Bilson. I actually like her style both on and off the screen.

Here are my favorites for fashion:

Olivia Palermo
I've never watched The City, but Olivia's style caught my attention immediately. She is a total risk taker  who manages to look chic and elegant all of the time!

Zoe Hart/Rachel Bilson
Rachel Bilson is known for her casual yet stylish fashion and is even a celebrity shopper on piperlime.com! I've been a fan of hers since the OC days and of course I am tuning into her new show, Hart of Dixie on the CW. Her character, Zoe Hart, has the BEST fashion and I am totally obsessed!

Outfits 1, 3 and 4 are from Hart of Dixie.

Kate Middleton
How could the Duchess not make my list?! Her style is so classic and timeless! Every time we see Kate, she looks phenomenal! She clearly has an amazing tailor.

And of course, Carrie Bradshaw
A character known for her fashion years after the show aired aired on HBO. I still find inspiration from Carrie's style, as well as the rest of the women, which says something about how well Carrie wore trendy fashion the right way. My poor husband is often stuck watching the show or movie because I just can't get enough!

Who are your fashion icons?

Work Wear

Top - Anthropologie; skirt - JCrew; Shoes - Anthropologie (old), similar style here; purse - Kate Spade; watch - Michael Kors; bracelet - JCrew
When searching for work wear, I always try to find clothes that I can wear to work and after. Yesterday I wore this outfit and each piece can easily be transitioned to after-hours. I'm currently very into the burgundy trend and can take this skirt from the office to dinner by either changing my top or if it's more of a casual spot, this outfit works easily with the bright, fun colors in the shirt.

Fall Wish List

13. Necklace

It's hard not to get excited for fall, especially with the return of boots, festive colors and yummy treats! The weather is finally beginning to cool down and the trees are turning to their vibrant yellows and reds; fall is officially here. With that said, I've created my fall wish list to share with all of you!

Date Night

Top - JCrew,  Pants - Massimo Dutti, Shoes - Christian Louboutin, Purse - Prada (currently 60% off at Nordstrom), Bracelet - JCrew

This weekend was my husband’s birthday and we decided to go out to a hip downtown restaurant, Grange.  Grange has a very modern and urban look, and I wanted to play along with it by dressing up a pair of masculine trousers with oxblood heels, a girly clutch and bright pink lips.

I found these pants while I was in Italy over the summer and I loved the pajama pant style with a sophisticated print. I’ve been seeing this style recently and it’s a great new look for a dress pant. By adding a pair of stilettos and a saucy, yet girly clutch, I was able to elevate this outfit to a date night look.  I kept the jewelry simple to show off the main two pieces: the trousers and the clutch.

Side note – I totally wish we had a Massimo Dutti in the U.S.! The same company that owns Zara owns them and I loved all of their clothes!

Savvy Suede

Sweater- J Crew, Jeans- Citizens of Humanity, Shoes- Gucci, Purse- Kate Spade,
Necklace- J Crew, Bracelet- Anthropologie

Every week, my husband and I like to sneak out for an evening on the town, and last night was no exception, as we headed to one of our neighborhood favorites, Bistro 33. I was excited as this gave me an opportunity to wear my new studded suede pumps! I love wearing my basics and jazzing them up with a little sparkle and my studded suede pumps. I am absolutely in love with the suede pump look. Add a colorful pair with your jeans and you are set. Make sure to also add some suede protectant (Scotchgard works!)as well, so that your shoes are kept in great condition.

Here are some of my favorite suede pumps:

Will you be trying the suede pump trend this Fall?

Red Carpet Review: The Emmy's

As the seasons turn to fall and winter, I become extremely excited for all the award shows…aka the red carpets! I covet the beautiful gowns that the stars wear to these big events and I also have those moments where I cringe at the crime committed on the red carpet!

With that said, the early beginnings of the red carpet season has begun and it was sadly disappointing overall. I felt deflated after watching E! and looking at photos online as I felt that the fashion was quite tepid.
I did have a several favorites that did stand out from the crowd. I was shocked that I gravitated to darker colors instead of the bright gowns this year, but several of these were so clean and chic! Here is my top five of the night:

I was surprised when I found myself lusting over Jessica Pare’s white gown and black belt. The look was beautiful and I loved the pop of color with her green ring and her red lips!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus looked FAB in her gown and loved that she was incorporating this fall’s color trend while still looking elegant. Even better, Louis-Dreyfus won for best actress in a comedy. If you have not watched Veep yet, I highly recommend!!
Kerry Washington’s Vivienne Westwood dress was by far one of my top favs of the top five!  She looked glamorous, yet effortless, which is a total success in my book!

Zosia Mamet’s  Bihbu Mahopatra gown was exactly what I wanted to see on the red carpet! I loved it’s minimalist feel, yet it had exquisite details and cuts - I could not get enough! Perfect fit for one of the stars on HBO’s Girls!
Of course G, Giuliana Rancic, made my top five. Rancic truly knows how to dress for the red carpet and it showed yet again in her Rafael Cennamo gown.

Notably missing: Sophia Vergara. Vergara looked fabulous, but I’m dying to see a different silhouette on her. She did not make the best dressed list because I’ve seen this dress before! Also missing, Heidi Klum. I’m very torn on her dress. She looked absolutely stunning (talk about breakup revenge!) but I could have done without one of her slits in the dress. I was a little nervous that she would have a wardrobe malfunction. Otherwise, loved it!

Biggest disappointment: Emily Thorne's dress. Thorne's dress could have made my top five; however I felt that the fit on the top was completely off and did not do her justice. I wish she would have had this tailored to fit better because it ruined a beautiful look.

What did all of you think of the Emmy’s this year? Did you feel that the fashion fell flat or did the show make you even more excited for red carpet season?

My New Staple

I finally found the perfect black denim. They’ve always been on the “want” list, but something else has always managed to come before them. The irony, is that these black jeans, were the first pair that I ever tried out and I love them. I cannot believe I have gone so long without black denim as they go well with so many outfits. I love how they add a little edginess to my look, while still keeping it clean and chic. These jeans are easy to dress up or down. They can be worn with ballet flats, boots, or heels as anything goes when it comes to my new staple!
